Information Table - Men's Conference
|
On January 16, 2010, SpeakingOut had
the opportunity to set up an Information
Table at a Men's Conference held at
Sevier Heights Baptist Church. Feed
Your Faith presented this conference
for men called "The Good, The Bad and
The Forgiven". One of the Guest
Speakers was Burt Rosen, President &
CEO of KARM (Knox Area Rescue
Ministries). Being at this event allowed
us to Raise Awareness on Child Sexual
Abuse in a big way... many stopped by
our information table. This is our
Primary Purpose... Raising Awareness
on Child Sexual Abuse in an effort to
Aid in the Prevention of this horrific
crime committed against innocent
children of all ages.
We would like to thank Bruce Anderson of KARM
(Knox Area Rescue Ministries) for inviting
SpeakingOut to be a part of this wonderful event.
Thank you for thinking of us!

Fundraising/Awareness Event - Sonic Summer Blast
|
On June 5th, the Sonic located at 608 Oak Ridge
Turnpike in Oak Ridge, TN held this Sonic Summer
Blast to benefit our cause. The event was held from
12noon - 4pm that Saturday. We had balloon
animals for the kids, along with hop scotch,
sidewalk chalk & jump rope. This was a wonderful
opportunity to raise awareness on the crime of
child sexual abuse in the Oak Ridge community.
We had a great time & met some wonderful new
people; some of which we have connected with for
future events. In addition to raising awareness,
Sonic of Oak Ridge has offered 10% of the net
sales during that time as a donation to
SpeakingOut. We feel very blessed to have had this
opportunity and look forward to continuing our
partnership with Sonic of Oak Ridge.

On June 12th, SpeakingOut had the opportunity to
set up an Information Table at this Civil Service
Appreciation Day Music Festival. In addition, we
had Bean Bag Toss available for a small donation
for children & adults alike. The event consisted of
music/free concerts, food & games. It was a
fun-filled, education day with lots of family
entertainment. Ed Fest 2010 was an all day event
in which we were able to raise awareness, meet
some new contacts & other great organizations in
that area. The kids loved playing bean bag toss for
candy & prizes. It's adorable watching those little
ones pick out the prizes and candy. They would
dig until they found just want they wanted. There
were many other great organizations out there, to
include, but not limited to CASA of Monroe County.
It is always a great thing to connect with other
groups that are also fighting against the abuse of
children. It was a great day!

Information Table - "Healing The Invisible Wounds" Training
|
On June 15th, SpeakingOut was invited to set up an
information table at a training class called "Healing
The Invisible Wounds: Children's Exposure To
Violence". This training was presented by Carla
Snodgrass of Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee &
focused primarily on a child's exposure to domestic
violence in the home. It also touched on the sexual
abuse of children. In addition to setting up an
information table & making some great new contacts,
Susan Suafoa-Dinino (President/Founder of
SpeakingOut) was able to attend the training as well.
It was an honor to join with many others who are
fighting to put a stop to the abuse of innocent children
of all ages. All forms of child abuse, whether sexual,
physical, neglect, emotional and/or psychological are
horrific. At SpeakingOut, we believe that Awareness
is the Key to the Prevention of Child Abuse.
Thank You Community Health of East
Tennessee for inviting SpeakingOut to
be a part of this wonderful training
event. We appreciate what you are
doing in the community.
