2009 Events & Workshops
"A Safe Place" Workshop - The Healing Place Church
Baton Rouge, LA
On May 31, 2009, SpeakingOut had it's first opportunity to Raise
Awareness in the State of Louisiana. We held one of our
Workshops called "A Safe Place" at The Healing Place Church's
Annex 1 Auditorium in Baton Rouge, LA.  With 21 people in
attendance, we had a very diverse group of participants...
everything from Social Workers, Law Enforcement, Preschool
Workers to Adult Survivors... just to
name a few.  The interaction & input from participants were great.  To sum it all up, we came
together as Leaders in our homes, our churches & the community to address the issue of Child
Sexual Abuse in America.
That's what it's all about... Working to Raise Awareness in order to
make America "A Safe Place" for children.
We would like to thank The Healing Place Church for allowing us to
use their facility for this much-needed Awareness/Prevention
Event.  In addition, I would like to thank Ed Firor of Healing Place
Church for making things so easy to coordinate holding the
Workshop at the Annex 1 Auditorium.  And a Special Thanks to Kelli
Cook of Healing Place Church for helping SpeakingOut spread the
word about this Workshop in and around the Baton Rouge area.

Information Table- 20th Annual ETN Victims' Rights Luncheon
Knoxville, TN
On April 29, 2009, we had the opportunity to set up an
Information Table at the Twentieth Annual East Tennessee
Victims' Rights Luncheon held at Calhoun's On The River.
With April 26th - May 2nd being National Crime Victims'
Rights Week & April being National Child Abuse Prevention
Month
, it was an absolute blessing to have been a part of this
event.  It gave SpeakingOut the opportunity to Raise
Awareness on Child Sexual Abuse & to join others who care
about the Victims of many & a variety of crimes in America.

"A Safe Place" Workshop - AMACHI of KLF
Knoxville, TN
On April 28, 2009, SpeakingOut had the opportunity to hold a
Workshop specifically for
AMACHI Mentors.  This program is
an initiative of Knoxville Leadership Foundation in which
mentoring services are provided to a very special group of
Knoxville's Children... Those with a Parent currently
incarcerated in State or Federal Prison.  With SpeakingOut's
primary focus being on the home, working with Mentors of
children through programs such as AMACHI is right in line with
our Mission.  With the time these Mentors spend with these
children, the more they know about Child Sexual Abuse, the better.  This was a great opportunity
during
National Child Abuse Prevention Month!
A Special thanks to Charlane Oliver, Program Director of AMACHI for
inviting SpeakingOut into their program to share what we know about
the Awareness & Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse.  What a Great
Group of people who care about the wellbeing of Children!

.  The meeting was held at

well as meet others in the community that are concerned about &
working hard for the safety of children.

"A Safe Place" Workshop for Church Leaders - KARM
Knoxville, TN
On March 26, 2009, SpeakingOut & Knox Area Rescue Ministries
teamed up to bring about this FREE Workshop for Church Leaders of
all Denominations.  A group of us came together as Leaders in our
Churches & the Community to the address the issue of Child Sexual
Abuse in America.  Although a sensitive topic, we spent several hours
together discussing Child Sexual Abuse in-depth.  What a great group
of Pastors/Ministers, Ministry Leaders, Biblical Counselors, etc...!  I feel
confident in saying that each person in attendance walked away with
knowledge on this evil... this crime & many with a passion to help
those around us that are hurting & scarred from Childhood Sexual
Abuse.  This includes the multitudes of innocent Children being
violated every single day, as well as the Adult Survivors; many of which
are still silent about their abuse & suffering alone.  Not only
were we able to Raise Awareness, but there was a lot of
Healing going on in that room as well.  What a Blessing!  It is
the goal of SpeakingOut to always honor God in what we are
doing.  Ultimately, this is all for His Glory.  Thank You Lord!

The Workshop included Praise/Worship Music & Prayer.  In
addition, some stayed after the Workshop for the "Pastors'
Luncheon" provided by KARM's Abundant Life Kitchen
Catering Service & a Tour of KARM's Facility led by Bruce
Anderson, Director of Church Relations, KARM.

Special Guests of SpeakingOut included...

Dr. Don Jones, Resolve Ministries Biblical Counseling Center
Bob Laws, Adult Survivor, Afton, TN
Randy Myers, Oak Ridge Police Officer & Founder of C.O.P.S. Ministry
According to Bruce Anderson, Director of Church Relations,
KARM...
“How can we prevent alcohol, drug abuse, immorality
and ultimately, homelessness in our community?  When I
asked the direct care staff at Knox Area Rescue Ministries,
‘What percent of the homeless population suffer as victims of
childhood sexual abuse?’, the answer was, ‘Almost all of
them!’  The pain of this crime is masked by alcohol, drug and
other substance abuse and immoral behavior, but to no avail.
This workshop for pastors and church leaders will break the
cycle of abuse which keeps victims in bondage.”
I want to thank each & every person that attended the
Workshop.  What a great group!  Also, I want to thank
each of SpeakingOut's Special Guests!  Your input was
very valuable & helpful to many others. Lastly, a
Special Thanks to Knox Area Rescue Ministries...
Bruce Anderson (For Everything), Roger (Praise &
Worship), Kathy Wise (Set Up) & Abundant Life
Kitchen (Great Food).  It was a pleasure working with
each & every one of you.
Speaking Engagement - Oak Ridge Lions Club
Oak Ridge, TN
On March 23, 2009, we had the opportunity to be the Guest Speaker
at the Oak Ridge Lions Club lunch meeting held at Ryans.  What a
great group!  They were attentive & interactive as we discussed the
rampant crime of Child Sexual Abuse in this country.  As some of the
statistics were shared with this group, I could see that many were
unaware of the magnitude of this problem in today's society.
SpeakingOut raised awareness with the Lions Club & it is our hopes
that they will now help us raise awareness in the community; to join
us in working toward Prevention for children's sake.

Thank you Oak Ridge Lions Club for affording us this opportunity.
And a special thanks to Sally Gadola for coordinating things so as
to allow us to join them as the Guest Speaker.
Speaking Engagement - ORAU
Oak Ridge, TN
On March 18, 2009, ORAU invited SpeakingOut to their "Brown Bag
Luncheon" for employees.  It was a great opportunity to raise
awareness with Parents (and possibly some Grandparents) out in the
workforce. In addition to the group in the room in Oak Ridge, TN, there
were other ORAU employees listening in by conference phone from
Cincinnati, Ohio & Colorado.  The message of the day was that it is
the responsibility of each & every Adult in America to not only address
the issue of Child Sexual Abuse in an effort to aid in prevention, but
also to notice the Signs & Symptoms of a child that is being or has
been sexually abused.  In order to notice the signs & Symptoms, we
(the Adults) have to know what they are.
ORAU, you were a great
group & I appreciate your care & concern about the Safety of
Children in America.
A Special Thanks to Wade Williamson & Sally Gadola of ORAU for inviting us to come in to
their workplace & Raise Awareness amongst ORAU Employees!
"A Safe Place" Workshop - Farragut Library
Knoxville, TN
On February 28, 2009, we were able to hold our 9th Workshop.  What a
GREAT Group!  Each person in attendance had so much valuable input
to offer to the rest of the group.  The best thing about these workshops is
that not only do we (at SpeakingOut) get to educate others on what we
know from our own personal experiences and research, but also what
others in the group learn from listening to the input of each other & their
experiences.  The interaction from attendees helps us take a very
sensitive topic & talk about it in everyday terms... all for the sake of
Children in America & the multitudes of Adult Survivors still dealing with
the affects of Childhood Sexual Abuse.  We would like to thank each &
every participant for taking time out of their weekend to spend that time
with us!
A Special Thanks to the Farragut Library for allowing us to use their facility to hold this much
needed Awareness & Prevention event!
Speaking Engagement - Social Issues Forum at TVUUC
Knoxville, TN
On February 22, 2009, the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist
Church invited us to be the Guest Speaker at there Social Issues
Forum.  We were very excited to have the opportunity to talk about a
Social Issue that most people don't want to talk about... Child
Sexual Abuse in America.  We had the pleasure of having open
discussion with 20 or so individuals who obviously cared about this
horrible violation that so many children endure all around us and every
single day in this country.  I would like to thank each and every person
for their participation, questions & input.

A Special Thanks to Charlie Wade & Ted Lollis of TVUUC for
affording us this opportunity to do what we do best... Raise
Awareness on Child Sexual Abuse in an effort to Aid in Prevention!
Speaking Engagement - Bearden Sequoyah United Ministries
Knoxville, TN
On February 17, 2009, Bearden Sequoyah United Ministries allowed
us to speak on the issue of Child Sexual Abuse at their monthly
meeting.  This is a wonderful
group of Leaders & Ministers that were
very open to hearing what I had to say about this horrible violation of
children in our homes and society in general.  We talked about the
truth & reality of Child Sexual Abuse & discussed possible ways in
which their ministries & organizations can get involved in the fight
against this crime.

A Special Thanks to Pastor Mark Moreland of Central
Baptist-Bearden for allowing us to be the Speaker of the month
during this meeting!
"A Safe Place" Workshop - Middlebrook Christian Ministries
Knoxville, TN
On January 25, 2009, we had the opportunity to hold another
Workshop in Knoxville, TN.  At SpeakingOut, we feel very blessed
anytime we have the opportunity to spend time with others who care
about the safety of children.  These workshops allow us time to share
what we know about this crime.  In addition, we are able to learn from
participants as well.  The ultimate goal in raising awareness on Child
Sexual Abuse is to aid in the Prevention of this crime.  Our Goal... to
make America "A Safe Place" for children.  And our workshops are just
one way in which we work toward this goal.  We believe
the best way
to tackle a huge issue such as Child Sexual Abuse in America is to
chip away small pieces at a time; one person at a time.
 Thank you
to each of you who took time out of your day to attend this Workshop!

A Special Thanks to Pastor Robert Bowman of Central Baptist-
Bearden for allowing us to use a meeting room at Middlebrook
Christian Ministries for this workshop!

America... A Safe Place for Children!
Speaking Engagement - Rally Against Child Sexual Assault
Lincoln Memorial Park - Washington, D.C.
On November 14, 2009, SpeakingOut participated in a
Rally in which a number of organizations & individuals
joined together from across the nation to rally against Child
Sexual Abuse in America in a very public forum.  The Rally
was hosted by FACSA & held at Lincoln Memorial Park,
which is a place where tourists roam about all throughout
the day.  As the Rally commenced, some of the passersby
were drawn in.  There were those who stopped & listened
for only a few minutes, others for long periods of time and
then there were those who interacted with us with
comments and questions.  The Event was a
Success!

This was the 1st Annual FACSA Rally & collectively we were
able to accomplish a very important task… Raising
Awareness on the crime of Child Sexual Abuse in America,
as well as addressing issues that surround this crime.
SpeakingOut is looking forward to having the opportunity to
participate again next year.

The Goal...
America… A Safe Place for Children!

Fundraising/Awareness Event - Mary Kay Open House
Baton Rouge, LA
On December 13, 2009, Terry Head (Mary Kay
Independent Beauty Consultant) & SpeakingOut
teamed up together
to hold a Christmas Holiday
Fundraising/ Awareness Event; a Mary Kay Open
House.  It it always a blessing when someone puts in
their time and efforts in order to raise funds for our
cause.  In addition, holding events such as this always
gives Speakingout the opportunity to Raise Awareness.
All it takes is just a few minutes with a teenager where
we are able to discuss the dangers out there, as well as
what they can do to prevent becoming a victim for our
event to be considered a
Huge Success... as every
Child is worth it; our time and efforts!
Terry Head, thank you so much for
holding this event to benefit our
cause.  We appreciate you!
